As the summer winds down, I’ve only got two feature photoshoots that haven’t run yet. The first is a ‘69 Super Bee, breathed on by the inimitable (he didn’t inimit me, anyway) Wayne Smothers for owner Jack Tucker, Jr. The beauty part is how stock it looks, the only giveaways are really the Mickey Thompson 275-60-15 street radials and the Ed Cook deep oil pan. Longtime Muscle Machines readers will recall Dan put a similar Smothers special on the cover in November 2005. That one was built for F.A.S.T. and turned 13.02 seconds @ 107 MPH. Jack’s car, in its sole trip down the strip, ran 11.84 @ 114, on pump gas, with manifolds.
You know you’ve had a good day when…
Also, a big shout to the people of Oklahoma, who really make it easy to photograph a car. Firstly, by saying “sure” when we drove up to the big powerplant and asked to take picture outside (that doesn’t happen in the Northeast); secondly, for not calling the cops later on (that does).
